Sometimes it’s useful to have volunteers answer a question when they sign up to volunteer. For example, you might ask what food item volunteers are planning to bring to a school potluck.
To add a question, click on Click here for Advanced Settings and then look under the signup options column:
By default, answers are shown on the web site for other volunteers to see. This can help others decide what to bring:
However, in some cases you’ll want responses to be private and only accessible by the event organizer, for example if you request confidential info such as home addresses or a child’s full name:
Responses to questions may be accessed from the manage page for the event:
To edit the response, click the small pencil icon:
This will pop up a box where you can edit the volunteer's response:
In some special situations, you might wish volunteers to answer more than one question when they sign up. For example you might be organizing a school talent show and you would like participants to enter the name of their group, the length of their act, the members, etc. HelpAtSchools allows you to create multiple questions by adding a "questionnaire" to the job signup.
Note that the Questionnaire feature has some limitations and, unless you have a lot of questions, it is better to use the "Ask volunteers a question" option above and word your question to request multiple answers, such as "Please enter what dessert you will bring and if it is gluten free".
To add a new question, click Add another question:
Limitations of Questionnaires:
Questionnaire responses are viewable only by the event organizer(s).
Questionnaire responses will not be included in email notifications or reminders.
Volunteers already provide name, phone, email when they sign up - so don't ask for those!
Responses to questionnaires may be accessed from the manage page for the event:
Questionnaire answers are NOT shown on the page, but you may view or edit the responses by clicking the pencil icon:
To obtain a full listing of the questionnaire responses, click the download volunteer list button:
This will generate a spreadsheet that lists all the volunteers and their responses to the questionnaire.
